About the Department
Imagine a science that combines the study of human behavior with the analysis of social interaction and its implications for you as an individual; a science that teaches you the art of making smart decisions in a variety of complex situations including how to spend your money, whether to get a graduate degree, how to succeed in the workplace or run a profitable enterprise; a science that enables you to predict the outcomes of various government policies related to taxes, interest rates, military spending, labor market regulation, and even environmental protection and thus make educated political choices. Imagine a degree that will make you well-off both intellectually and financially and that will make your college years both challenging and fun!
Actually there is no need to imagine – this science is called economics. Economics studies human behavior, and as such it has been applied to many different areas such as labor economics, environmental and natural resource economics, public finance, economics and law, health care, international trade and finance, urban and regional economics, anti-trust economics, economics and ethics, and even such areas as crime, sports, and religion.
The Marquette Economics Department prepares students for careers in business, government, and the non-profit sector, or if they choose, for graduate study in law, business, economics, and public policy. The department is jointly housed in the Helen Way Klinger College of Arts and Sciences, as well as the College of Business.
Within the College of Arts and Sciences, we offer:
- Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematical Economics
- Bachelor of Arts in Economics
- Minor in Economics
In the College of Business, students can earn:
- Bachelor of Science in Economics
And from the Graduate School of Management, we offer the Master of Science in Applied Economics (MSAE), which is typically completed in 1.5-2 years. A special five-year undergraduate/graduate program sequence allows Marquette undergraduate economics majors to complete their MSAE degree with just one additional year of study beyond the completion of their undergraduate program.
If you would like to have more information on any of these degree options, please contact Dr. David Clark, Chair of the Department of Economics, at (414) 288-3339, or via email at david.clark@marquette.edu.
