Development assistance to poorer nations is as important an issue now as ever in its past. Poverty and poor governance proves to be an environment that fosters violence, corruption, human rights violations, environmental degradation and health problems. In a world of increasing economic and social integration, these problems can no longer be thought of as a "developing nation" issue.
Development assistance is much more than financial. Various polices of the developed nations, such as agricultural policies and regional and multilateral trade agreements have a significant impact on the living standards of developing nations.
