A paper presentation on "Price and Wage Stickiness, Inflation and Profits by Dr.David VanHoose, Professor of Economics at Baylor University

Held on : February 29th, 2008
Where: Room 465, David Straz Hall.

When: From 2:00- 3:30 p.m.

Dr. VanHoose earned his Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is currently the Herman W. Lay Professor of Private Enterprise at the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University.

Most recently, his work has appeared in Oxford Economic Papers, the Journal of International Money and Finance, and the European Journal of Political Economy

He has published articles in such professional journals as the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the International Economic Review, the Southern EconomicJournal, the Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking, Economic Inquiry and the Scandinavian Journal of Economics.

Dr. VanHoose served as a visiting Economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in 1988 and as a visiting Scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City in 1989.

IIn 1991, he received the "Iddo Sarnat Award" for the outstanding article in the Journal of Banking and Finance. In 1995 and 2000 he was awarded the Atlantic Economic Journal's best article award.

He is an editor of the Journal of Economics and Business and served on the editorial boards of Open Economies Review and the Atlantic Economic Journal.

Dr. VanHoose is also the author of E-Commerce Economics, co-author (with Roger Leroy Miller) of Macroeconomics: Theories, Policies, and International Applications and Money, Banking and FinancialMarkets, and co-author (with Dr. Joseph Daniels at Marquette University) of International Monetary and Financial Economics and Global Economic Issues and Policies.


William Poole, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis Visits Marquette

On Wednesday, November 7, 2007, the CEGS and the MEA sponsored the visit of William Poole, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.

MU Economics students had the unique opportunity to privately visit with, and question President Poole for over an hour prior to his presentation to the Marquette business community.

Dr. Poole spoke at length about the challenges that face the US economy, including the sub-prime problem, and the role of the Fed in avoiding a financial crisis.

 


CEGS Sponsors Second Annual Career Night for Economics Students

In November, the CEGS and the MEA sponsored the second Career Night for undergraduate and graduate economics students. Developed by the CEGS in 2006, the purpose of Career Night is to bring together our students and faculty for dinner and conversation, while learning from our past graduates about their career choices and experiences.

This year 50 students and faculty were in attendance. The alumni speakers included Joe Hartung (MSAE), Christopher Piotrowski (MSAE), Emily (Lephardt) Lechtenberg (BS), and Gregory Jackson (BA).
