Graduate Student Financial Aid

Marquette University offers scholarship opportunities for graduate students through the Graduate School. A limited number of assistantships also may be available to students pursuing the MSAE degree. Loans, part-time job opportunities, and other forms of financial aid are available through the Office of Student Financial Aid. However, no offer of financial aid can be made until a student has been admitted to Marquette on a regular, degree-seeking basis.

Each year, several half-time research/teaching assistantships are available through the Department of Economics. A limited number of tuition scholarships are also available. The Economics Department typically does not offer full-time assistantships. International students should know that half-time assistantships require a deposit and completion of a financial verification form for the remainder of your tuition and living expenses in order to obtain their F-1 visa.

The equivalent of one additional graduate assistantship (2 half-time assistantships) is available through the Center for Global Economic Studies (CGES). This position is competitively awarded on the basis of a brief essay submitted by eligible students.

For more on the CGES and this assistantship, please click here.

Half-time assistantships in 2006-07 have tuition remission of $6,750 as well as a 10-month stipend of $6,044.  For your information, tuition is $750 per credit.

Financial aid is allocated on a competitive basis, and applications for a given academic year should normally be submitted by the preceding February 15.

Application for financial aid can be made on the admission form.

The Economics Department also participates in several university-wide financial aid programs. One such program is the Marquette University Minority Fellowship. This award provides financial assistance that consists of a stipend and tuition scholarship. Awards are made as a supplement to a departmental assistantship award. The award consists of 9 credits of tuition scholarship and a stipend that is approximately $6,044 for the 2006-07 academic year. Eligible students compete for up to four awards per year with students from other graduate programs around the university. The awards are one year, non-renewable awards. Nominations are made to the Graduate School by each department., so if you meet the requirements below, you are urged to contact the Economics Department prior to the February 15th financial aid deadline.

The restrictions for the award include that the applicant must be from minorities that are underrepresented in graduate education (African-American, Hispanic, and Native American) and must be a United States Citizen.
