MBA Transition Rules to New Curriculum 2002
Revised 2/27/2002
Any student that enters the MBA program in Fall 2002 or later is entered under the new program automatically and need not complete any paperwork.
Current students MUST complete a transition form indicating what curriculum they would like to complete.
Students that fail to complete a transition selection form by December 31, 2002 will be assumed to stay in their current curriculum and will be required to complete all requirements of that curriculum.
Students that take a term or more off from the program will return to the new curriculum, unless otherwise approved PRIOR to taking the leave of absence.
Defined as: Students that joined the MBA program recently and have not taken any 1.5 credit courses (i.e., BUAD 220, 231, 263, or 270).
Recommendation:
Move to new program, minus BUAD 205 Information Technology Foundation requirement and BUAD 291 Skills Course requirement.
Result:
No additional credits added to your program;
All of the additional choice and flexibility of new program added.
Most Senior Students
Defined as: Students near completion of program.
Have taken all, or at least three of the 1.5 credit courses (i.e., BUAD 220, 231, 263, or 270), BUAD 224 and BUAD 290.
Recommendation:
Stay in the current program.
Result:
No change to your program or plan to graduation.
Near Senior Students
Defined as: "Most Senior Students" (see above) less BUAD 290.
Recommendation:
Stay in the current program; take any section of BUAD 290.
Result:
No change to your program or plan to graduation. You get a choice of BUAD 290 to match your interests.
Midway Students
Defined as: Students that are partway through the MBA program.
Recommendation:
Varies with the courses the student has taken.
Students are recommended to consult with Cheryl Nelson, Director of Student Services, at 414.288.7145 before choosing which curriculum to choose.
Students that move into the new curriculum will NOT be required to complete the BUAD 205 Information Technology Foundation course or BUAD 291 Skills courses. Therefore, the required number of credits for graduation will NOT increase. See attached flow chart.
Students that have already completed BUAD 220 would use this course to fulfill their core course requirement. Students that move into the new program and have already completed BUAD 224, BUAD 263 or BUAD 270 would simply use this course to fulfill their Quantitative Methods elective core course, Social, Ethical, Political Environment elective core course, or IT/e-Business elective core course, respectively.
Students from the current program that have taken two or four 1.5 credit courses that transfer into the new curriculum can use the 1.5 credit course to fulfill core and elective core courses but must make up the credits through electives (i.e., students that have take two 1.5 credit courses and move to the new program will need to complete one extra elective; students that completed four 1.5 credit courses will need to complete two extra electives).
Once a student moves to the new program, they may only take one additional 1.5 credit course and have it count as a core course or elective core course (i.e., a student that moves into the new program may NOT take BUAD 263 for 1.5 credits to count toward the Social, Ethical, Political Environment AND BUAD 270 as 1.5 credits to count toward the IT/e-Business elective core AND BUAD 220 as 1.5 credit to count toward the Operations and Supply Chain Management Required Core).
However, if a student has already taken, for example, BUAD 263 as 1.5 credits, they may use this to satisfy the Social, Ethical, Political Environment elective core requirement and may take one additional 1.5 credit course to supplement the 1.5 credits already completed to balance the total credits to 3 (i.e., they may move into the new program, take BUAD 270 as 1.5 credits to satisfy the IT/e-Business elective core requirement, but they must take an additional 3 credit elective to supplement the credit differential.)
Students that opt for the new curriculum may take three BUAD 291 Skills courses to fulfill one free elective.
Students that have not completed the BUAD 290 course, regardless of which curriculum they choose, may complete any section of BUAD 290 they so choose.

BUAD 220 Operations Management (1.5 credits)
BUAD 231 Legal Issues in Business (1.5 credits)
