Joint Programs

Marquette University's graduate programs in business have a number of joint programs available. Students enrolled in Marquette's joint programs have the benefit of an interdisciplinary learning environment while making it more efficient to complete both degrees simultaneously (i.e., typically students can complete the joint program with fewer credits than doing each degree program individually, therefore finishing in less time). See below for the details on each of our joint programs.

M.B.A.-M.A Political Science Degree

The College of Business Administration, in conjunction with the Department of Political Science, offers a program of joint study leading to a master of arts (M.A.) degree in political science or international affairs and a master’s of business administration (M.B.A.) degree. The program is designed for students whose interests overlap business and politics or business and international affairs. Joint degree students are able to complete both degree programs in less time than if both degrees were pursued separately.

Students seeking admission into the joint degree program must meet the admission requirements of each program, although their application may include GMAT scores in lieu of GRE scores. Acceptance into one program does not guarantee acceptance into the other.

Joint degree students count 9 credits of coursework in each program toward the required coursework credits of the other program. Thus, 9 of the 40or 50 credits required for the M.B.A. degree will come from Political Science courses, and 9 of the 30 credits required for the M.A. degree in political science or in international affairs will come from Business Administration courses.

MBA MSN

The College of Business Administration, in conjunction with the College of Nursing, offers a program of joint study leading to an MBA degree and an MSN degree with a specialization in Health Care Systems Leadership. Students seeking admission to the joint program apply to the Graduate School and must meet the admission requirements for both the MBA and MSN programs.

Joint program students complete a total of 60 credits, including:

  • 6 credits of MBA Foundation courses — BUAD 201, BUAD 202, BUAD 203
  • 12 credits of Nursing Core courses — NURS 200, NURS 207, NURS 209, NURS 291
  • 24 credits of MBA Core courses — BUAD 224, BUAD 210, BUAD 220, BUAD 230, BUAD 240, BUAD 250, BUAD 262, BUAD 290
  • 18 credits of Health Care Systems Leadership courses — HEAL 220, HEAL 241, HEAL 246, HEAL 248, NURS 244, NURS 247

A comprehensive examination in the nursing content area is required. BUAD 290, Strategic Management in a Global Economy, serves as the final integrating experience for the business content area. BUAD 290 may be taken only after completing all other core requirements.

MBA JD

The College of Business Administration, in conjunction with the Law School, offers a program of joint study leading to an MBA degree and a juris doctor degree. Students seeking admission to the joint program must apply to both the Graduate School and the Law School and must meet the admission requirements for each.

Joint program students complete 81 credit hours in the Law School and 28 Business credit hours beyond required foundation courses in the MBA program. Up to 21 hours of an MBA - JD student's course work will count jointly toward both degrees (12 hours Law School credit may be applied to MBA requirements and as many as nine hours of MBA credits may be applied to JD elective requirements).

LAW 434 Cyberlaw is encouraged for all students pursuing joint MBA - JD degrees. This course may satisfy both an elective in the law program and will satisfy the IT/e-Business Core Elective requirement. Students are strongly encouraged to seek advising from both programs.

In general, joint program students will pay tuition at the full-time (flat tuition) Law School rate while a full-time student, regardless of whether or not they are taking additional graduate courses. Upon receiving the juris doctor degree, joint program students will pay Graduate School tuition at the per credit rate for graduate courses. Part-time law students will typically pay the per credit Law School rate for law courses, and the per credit Graduate School rate for graduate courses.

Healthcare Technology

The Healthcare Technologies Management Program is a collaborative effort between Marquette University and the Medical College of Wisconsin that combines education in business and biomedical engineering.
