Provides in-depth coverage of business conditions, trends, corporate strategies and tactics, management techniques, competitive and product information, and a wide variety of other topics.  Full text is provided for more than 600 of the business and management publications included in ABI-INFORM.  1971 to present.

 
ABI/INFORM Trade & Industry  from ProQuest  

This database covers more than 700 publications, mostly trade journals.  It's designed to help researchers study and compare specific trades and industries, including telecommunications, computing, transportation, construction, petrochemicals, and many others.  Mostly 1990's to present, though there are some journal titles for which coverage goes back to the 1980's and a very few going back to the 1970's.

 
Accounting & Tax Periodicals   from ProQuest  

Features cover-to-cover indexing and abstracts to 300 key publications in accounting, auditing, and financial management from the U.S. and overseas, including AICPA and FASB publications.  Also included are citations to relevant articles from over 800 newspapers, business journals, dissertations, and news magazines,making this database an authoritative resource for accounting and financial information.  There is only limited full-text (~200 titles).  Coverage is 1990 to the present for all publications, but a few publications are indexed as far back as 1971.

 
Banking Information Source   from ProQuest  

Provides information about the financial services industry, banking trends, topics, issues, and operations with comprehensive coverage of important industry sources.  Complete bibliographic information--including abstracts--is available for more than 220 industry publications, newsletters, Bank Marketing Association's Golden Coin Awards competition entries, Stonier Theses, and School of Bank Marketing papers--plus citations to banking-related articles from American Banker, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times.  Full-text articles are included for selected high-demand titles.  Citations are 1981 to present.  Limited full-text coverage beginning with 1994 material.

Business, company and industry information in journal and newspaper articles; financial analysts’ reports; encyclopedias, directories and other reference books.  For industry information, it allows searching by both SIC and NAICS codes.  Indexing of articles 1980 to present.  Full-text starts mostly in the 1990s.  Financial analysts’ reports: a rolling 3 years, embargoed 3-4 weeks. Reference books: current editions.

Index to local and regional business magazines, newspapers, and newswires focused on business.  Especially good for researching smaller, local, and private companies.  1985 to present.

Business Source Elite   from EBSCO  Search Tips  

Provides full text from nearly 1,040 journals covering business, management, economics, banking, finance, accounting and much more.  In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 1,570 journals.  This database contains popular business publications such as Business Week, Forbes, and Harvard Business Review, and hundreds of scholarly, peer-reviewed journals.  Also included is Wall Street Words, a dictionary of financial terms, linked directly to words within the citations and full text.  Full text backfiles go as far back as January of 1990, while indexing and abstract backfiles go as far back as January of 1984.

Provides corporate linkage information (hierarchy and ownership of corporate affiliates, subsidiaries, divisions, etc.) for major private and public companies in the US and abroad.  It corresponds to the print publication Directory of Corporate Affiliations.  Current data only.

 
Corporate Library Historical Data   from Corporate Library picture of CD-ROM

Provides independent and objective information about the corporate governance, compensation and performance of the management of publicly-traded US companies.  The data are drawn primarily from the proxy statements of publicly traded companies (and occasionally from 10-K reports), and presented in Excel spreadsheets.  Each year’s historical data are a snapshot of the current database on June 30 of that year (the current database is called Board Analyst, and is updated continuously).

 
Corporate ResourceNet   from EBSCO  Search Tips  

Covers a broad spectrum of U.S. and international business topics and industries; scientific and medical information; regulation and policy information; and company and product information.  Includes 2000 full-text titles, 1000 abstracted titles, and 700+ pamphlets.  Covers newspapers (current 90 days only), trade and scholarly journals.  Also contains 1.6 million company directory records from Dun & Bradstreet and Disclosure, 60,000 web-links, and 10,000 images.  A few, general titles are indexed back to the mid-1980's, but most coverage begins in the 1990's.

Dissertations and Theses   from ProQuest  

This database contains records for more than 2 million doctoral dissertations and master's theses.  Also included is the full text content for nearly 900,000 dissertations.  Includes extensive coverage of North American graduate schools, with coverage of some European universities beginning in 1989.  A separate database contains the subset of Marquette University doctoral dissertations in full text.

A database of economic, financial, and demographic time series data.  The data can be downloaded to and used most easily with a spreadsheet package, but can be used in several other formats as well.  The database consists of four segments: 1. The BASIC ECONOMICS database contains approximately 6,000 monthly, quarterly and annual time series that date back to 1946 when available and end with the latest observations.  Data in this database consists of national-level information, taken from various Federal agencies such as the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Census, Labor Statistics, and the Federal Reserve Board, etc. as well as private organizations with their permission.  2. The BASIC WEEKLY database contains approximately 500 weekly time series that date as far back as 1959 where applicable.  Whenever possible, monthly counterparts are available in the DRI BASIC ECONOMICS database.  Financial variables, banking statistics, commodity prices, and other economic indicators from various Federal agencies and private organizations are included in this weekly database.  3 & 4. The DRI BASIC DAILY & FX (Foreign Exchange) databases are comprised of about 700 financial variables, commodity prices, interest rates and foreign exchange rates.  These data are uniquely stored at a weekday frequency where weekends are not included in the series.

International Financial Statistics   from IMF Statistics  Search Tips  

This monthly publication is a standard source of international statistics on all aspects of international and domestic finance. It reports, for most countries of the world, current data needed in the analysis of problems of international payments and of inflation and deflation, i.e., data on exchange rates, international liquidity, international banking, money and banking, interest rates, prices, production, international transactions, government accounts, and national accounts. Information is presented in country tables and in tables of area and world aggregates.  Only numeric data is provided.  1975 to present.

Provides financial research reports on publicly traded companies and their industries from over 500 financial brokers (investment analysts) in North America, Europe, Asia/Pacific, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East.  All analyst reports are provided in full page PDF image.  Coverage is 1982 to the present, with 2-3 week delay.

Features a rich variety of full text sources providing up-to-date information on current events, business, law, and medicine.  It includes regional, national, and international newspapers; magazines; wire services; business publications (trade journals, corporate annual reports, tax sources); legal resources (law reviews, court cases, briefs, federal and state codes); government documents; medical information (medical journals); and reference sources (directories, biographical information).  Coverage varies by title; very good coverage from the early 1990s to present, with some coverage as early as the mid-1970s.

 
Main Economic Indicators   from SourceOECD  Search Tips

ReferenceUSA   from InfoUSA  

ReferenceUSA consists of two databases: a business directory and a consumer directory.  The business directory contains ~11 million records primarily for private and public companies.  In addition, it includes schools, non-profit organizations, and governmental bodies.  The main search categories are: company name, line of business, company size, geographic location, and type of officer.  It also traces and links corporate ownership, so that you can find out who owns whom.  The consumer directory contains ~180 million records for individuals.  It is searchable by name, address, and phone number.  Current information only.

Standard & Poor's Research Insight (North America) contains financial data on US and Canadian public companies and indexes. It is available in the Raynor Library Computer Lab and in the Straz Hall Computer Lab. It includes more than: 10,300 active and 9,400 inactive Companies; 900 Canadian Companies; 600 Indexes including the S&P 500, S&P MidCap 400, S&P SmallCap 600, S&P 1500, S&P Industry and Toronto Stock Exchange; 332 annual fundamental financial data items; 128 quarterly fundamental financial data items; financial data items specific to the financial services industry; prices, dividends and earnings information: company name, address and officer information; industry & geographic segment information; industry & economic sector value/growth indicator information; 20 years of annual information; 12 years of quarterly information; 20 years of monthly information.  Coverage is latest 20 years only.  Current data is also available via WRDS

 
Socrates; the Corporate Social Ratings Monitor  from KLD  

Provides three types of information: Company profiles: in-depth analyses of the corporate social responsibility of public companies in the S&P 500 Index and the Domini 400 Social Index (total of ~660 companies), with ratings in seven areas:  community, diversity, employee relations, environment, non-US operations, product, and 'other'.  Involvement reports: comprehensive U.S. and International involvement lists covering the global publicly traded universe for seven controversial businesses or industries.  These are:  alcohol, contraceptives, firearms, gambling, military, nuclear power, and tobacco.  (This covers ~3,000 companies.)  Shareholder actions:  text of shareholder actions/resolutions and company responses.  Shareholder action reports go back to 1998; otherwise, current reports only.

 
SourceOECD   from OECD  Search Tips  

A portal to the publications of the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), an international, non-governmental organization that studies and helps to formulate economic and social policy.  These publications include books, journals and statistics on economics, business, social sciences, development, statistics, environment, education, agriculture, investment, finance, governance.  Includes full-text journals; full-text books and annual reports; and statistical databases.  The books are organized by the following subject areas, called themes: agriculture & food; development; education & skills; emerging economies; employment; energy; enterprise, industry & trade; environment & sustainable development; finance & investment; general economics & future studies; governance; international development; nuclear energy; science & information technology; social issues & migration; statistics sources & methods; taxation; territorial economy; transition economics; and transport.  1997 to present for full-text periodicals and books.  Statistical data can go back to the 1960’s depending on the variable, and can be available in monthly, quarterly or annual intervals (again, depending on the variable).  Works best with Internet Explorer.

Thomson ONE Banker   from Thomson Financial  

Company information for approximately 12,000 US and 13,000 foreign public companies, representing about 96% of world market value in 50+ countries.  Some material is in spreadsheet format, and some in PDF format.&bnsp; There are in effect three interfaces to the data: GA Reference View (the default), GA Business View and PiranhaWeb.  Use Reference View as a guide to the various types of data available on a company.  Use Business View to see the data as a preformatted report.  Use PiranhaWeb for complex searches and to be able to manipulate the resulting data.  Includes SEC (EDGAR) filings or documents; Annual Reports to Stockholders (PDF format); I/B/E/S tearsheets (PDF format); extracted financial data (spreadsheet format).  Indexing of SEC filings from 1968 to present.  Full text coverage: of SEC filings begins mostly in 1993, of US Annual Reports to Stockholders beginning in 1997, of international company annual reports beginning in 1997, current I/B/E/S tearsheets only.  There is up to 10 years of extracted financial data through the GA interfaces.  Through the PiranhaWeb interface, there is extracted financial data back to 1982 for foreign companies, and back to 1986 for US companies.

 
Wall Street Journal   from Dow Jones  

The most frequently used daily financial newspaper in the US, it provides business and financial news coverage, personal and company profiles, feature reporting, special reports, and regular columns.  Indexing and ASCII full text of the Wall Street Journal.  The full-text is searchable, with additional searchable fields including section, page, and special feature.  Indexing from 1/5/1982, and comprehensive full-text from 1/2/1984.

 
The Wall Street Transcript  from Wall Street Transcript Corp.  

Wall Street Transcript is a journal (originally published in print, and it still is; it began publication in 1963) whose content consists of transcripts of interviews with CEO's and other high-level corporate executives, and transcripts of interviews with investment analysts and money managers.  The transcripts are generally 2000 - 4000+ words each (except for the analyst roundtables which are considerably longer).  1997 to present.

 
WRDS  from Wharton Research Data Services  Search Tips  

Wharton Research Data Services, or WRDS, is a web-based data management system that allows faculty and students to easily retrieve information from a wide variety of financial, economic, and marketing data sources.  In other words, it is a data hosting and interface service.  Marquette has access to subscription-based datasets and some free datasets available through WRDS.  Faculty and graduate students may also request individual accounts for storage space on the WRDS servers.
