Morris B. Holbrook is the W. T. Dillard Professor of Marketing in the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University. Since 1975, he has taught courses at the Columbia Business School in such areas as Marketing Strategy, Consumer Behavior, and Commercial Communication in the Culture of Consumption. For a 20-year period (1977-1996), he was the most published author in the top journals (JM, JCR, JMR) in the entire marketing field. His research has covered important topics in marketing and consumer behavior focusing on communication, aesthetics, semiotics, hermeneutics, art, entertainment, music, motion pictures, nostalgia, and stereography. Recent books include The Semiotics of Consumption (with Elizabeth C. Hirschman and Mouton de Gruyter, 1993); Consumer Research (Sage, 1995); and Consumer Value (edited, Routledge, 1999). His presentation is based on research from his 2005 article that was published in the journal, Marketing Letters.
